The first weekend in June, downtown Bloomington Illinois had its first steampunk event. Well attended and successful, Cogs and Corsets will be happening again in the future and plans are already in the works for next year. Tesla coil demo, teapot races, maker’s faire, costume contest, many workshops, exhibits, tours, teas, soiree, and a burlesque show were all part of the fun. More than 30 art galleries and studios, eateries and retail stores were open on Friday and Saturday. Many of the events were free and a few were ticketed. Put this special event on your calendar for next spring.
On May 5, First Friday from 5-8 pm, Vince Bobrosky will be in my studio showing his glass art. You may know Vince from his work on several of the murals in downtown Bloomington. Vince is a glass artist and muralist who studied art at Illinois State University in the mid 70’s focusing on modern glass scupture. He worked under professor Joel Philip Myers and David Huchthausin. One of his sculptures was selected by the Corning Museum of Art to be included as outstanding glass artist of the time. He will be showing several works including this piece of sculpture and will be in the gallery discussing his work.
